# BBPT-670 – ‘70-’81 CAMARO BIG BLOCK – ‘75-’79 NOVA BIG BLOCK – Pro-Tour BB Stock chassis with stock steering https://lemonsheaders.com/product/bbpt-670-70-81-camaro-75-79-nova-pro-tour-bb-stock-chassis-with-stock-steering/ Wed, 29 Nov 2023 17:45:20 +0000 https://lemonsheaders.com/?post_type=product&p=1729 Header Spec’s:

This header is available in 2” or 2 1/8” tube size with 3 ½” collectors. All of the tubes are inside the frame. Our headers are hand made to order, so we can build them for any engine deck height and for any aftermarket cylinder head as long as the engine stays in the stock location.

What Fits:

On our design car we used ’72-’81 clamshell style motor mounts to design around. The ’70-’71 cars use the earlier style mount which keeps the engine in the same location and offers even more header room. You can also use solid motor mounts which would be Moroso #62530 for the frame and #62515 for the engine. This header will not fit a mid plate.

Ground clearance is excellent. We used a Milodon low profile 7 quart oil pan #30951 and #30956 to design with and the header is higher than the bottom of the pan. These 2 oil pans offer easy access to the oil filter. Measuring from the side of a stock oil pan we have 3 ½” of room for side sump kick outs on the passenger side and 4” of room on the driver side. If your oil pan has a driver side kick out under the oil filter it may make it difficult to remove the filter. With a straight sided pan the filter is easily removed. This header was designed with a Power Master #9540 starter (Nippondenso style) and will not fit with a Hitachi type mini starter or full size GM starter. See starter photos.

This header fits a power brake booster and clutch linkage. It has good clearance from the steering column and excellent spark plug access. It does not fit column shifter linkage. If you have a Lakewood type bell housing you may have to slightly grind the outer lip under the starter for header room.

We offer the Power Master #9540 starters.

From ’70 thru ’81 the Camaro used 2 styles of motor mounts. In ’70, ’71, and ‘72  they used the early style like on the first gen Camaro’s used then later they used clamshell mounts. This header fits both, it also fits Moroso solid mounts. For the ’70-’72 cars use the stock SB frame stand and Moroso #62530 engine mounts. To replace the clamshell mounts with solid mounts use Moroso #62530 frame mounts and #62515 engine mounts

This header requires a Power Master #9540 or #9500 starter, it will also fit with a

CVR #5323 starter. It will not fit the original large GM starters.

This header does not fit a mid plate. It does not fit an original factory AC box on the fire wall, but will fit aftermarket air conditioners like Vintage Air. It fits with mechanical clutch linkage, power brake booster, but does not fit column shifter linkage

Header installation: Pro-Tour Style

If this header is built in the pro-tour style it should be installed with the engine.

Header Installation: Race Style

If this header is built in the race style it will have slip on race collectors and individual tubes and can be installed with the engine in place as you will install one tube at a time, in this order.

Driver side install #1, #3, #5, #7, only snug the header bolts (not tight) until the collector is installed then go back and tighten all bolts.

Passenger side, install #2, #8, #4, #6, then the collector.

Be sure to read our (Header Installation Tips) page before installing your new Lemons Headers It will make the installation go easier and will save you time.

This header is designed to go as large as a 2” to 2 1/8” step header with up to 4” collectors. All of our headers are hand made so we can make them for any cylinder head and any block deck height, in any size you need.

What Fits:
This is a race header made for motor plates only and it will come with a split flange and our slip on race collectors. It was designed on a Spohn #704 K member and may or may not clear other aftermarket K members. Ask Dan
All tubes are inside the frame with excellent ground clearance and spark plug access.
This header was designed using a Moroso # 21150 oil pan with no side sump kick outs. There is no room for a sump kick out on the passenger side. The stock LS-7 oil pan comes with dry sump oil lines on the passenger side and there is no room for them, so you will have to use a wet sump pan. There is good room and oil filter access with a stock LS-1 thru LS-6 oil pan. Our design car had a TCI starter and the stock starter also fits.
This header would come with oxygen sensor bungs welded in the collectors facing outward, but if you request a “V” band connection for your exhaust reducers we would install the oxygen bungs in the reducers witch can be rotated to any position. This header will fit a power brake booster, but will not fit factory air conditioning or any type of column shifter linkage or mechanical clutch linkage.

Installing the Headers:

Passenger side: with the engine in place and starter and spark plugs in place you can install the rear 2 tubes from below, do not start any header bolts. Next install the front 2 tubes from below and then bolt both header sections in place.

Driver side: remove the center section of the steering column between the 2 “U” joints. Install the front 2 tubes from below. Start front header bolt to hold tubes, but leave the header tubes loose and reinstall the steering column. Next install the rear 2 tubes and bolt both header sections in place.
Next install the collectors.

See our (Header Installation Tips) page for a more detailed explanation.

This header is designed for any tube size up to 2 ¼” with any collector size up to 4” or our collector muffler up to a 5” size. All of the tubes are inside the frame with good ground clearance and spark plug access. It will fit any mini starter a full size GM starter will not fit. This design will fit side motor mounts or motor plates. The passenger side is the most restrictive. Depending on the tube size you may have to slightly trim the bottom of the mid plate and the outside corner of the starter aluminum mounting block. Measuring from the side of a stock oil pan on the passenger side we have 3 ¼” of room for an oil sump kick out and on the driver side we have 2 ½” at mid pan and 3 ½” of room at the bottom of the pan. If there is no kick out on the driver side the oil filter is accessible. If you are using a Lakewood style scatter shield you may have to trim the outer edge of it below the starter area. The driver side header is close to the steering column, depending on the tube size you may have to replace the factory rag joint with a smaller “U” joint. The header will fit a hydraulic clutch system only, but is not intended for air conditioning or column shifter linkage.

Header Installation:

We build our race headers with individual tubes and a slip on collector for easier installation. Depending on tube size and oil pan kick outs you may have to remove the starter and steering column section between the 2 “U” joints.
Install both sides from front to back. As you install each tube only start the header bolts leaving them loose enough that the tubes can move freely. Once all the tubes are in snug the header bolts, but don’t tighten them until the collectors are installed then go back and tighten all the bolts.
Refer to our header installation tip’s page for additional instructions.

This header is designed for any tube size up to 2 ½” with any collector size up to 5” or with our collector mufflers up to a 6” size.
It was designed on a stock chassis with an aftermarket “K” member ( BMR or AJE ) and with motor plates only, no side motor mounts ( we can clear BMR side mounts ). The engine must stay in the stock location.
All of the tubes are inside the frame with good ground clearance and spark plug access. It requires a mini starter a full size GM starter will not fit. A Power Master #9500 starter has the most room. Measuring from a stock oil pan on the passenger side we have 2 ½” at the top and 3 3/8” of room at the bottom for an oil pan sump kick out. On the driver side we have 3 ½” of room. The driver side with a large tube size is close to the steering column, you may have to replace the factory rag joint with a smaller “U” joint.
This header will fit with a hydraulic clutch system only and is not intended for air conditioning or column shifter linkage.

Header Installation:

This chassis is very confined especially on the passenger side. We build this header with individual tubes and a slip on collector for easier installation.
Install the tubes on both sides starting from front to back, only start the header bolts so the tubes can move freely until all of the tubes are installed then snug the header bolts, but not tight until the collectors are installed then go back and tighten all the header bolts.

This header is designed for any tube size up to 2 ¼” with any collector size up to 4”. The tightest area on this chassis is the floor board area around the transmission which does not allow enough room for our collector mufflers. All of the tubes are inside the frame with good ground clearance and spark plug access. The lowest part of the header is the collectors because of the floor board. The header is designed for oil pans with kick out sumps. Measuring from a stock oil pan we have 3” of room at the pan rail and 4 ¼” at the bottom of the pan on the driver side. On the passenger side we have 2 ¼” at the pan rail and 2 ½” at the bottom of the pan. With no kick out on the oil pan the starter and oil filter are accessible. This design is made to fit side motor mounts or motor plates, but the engine must stay in the stock location. This header will fit a power brake booster, but will not fit a factory clutch slave cylinder or air conditioning or column shifter linkage.

We offer Power Master #9540 starters.
Header Installation:

Our race headers are normally made with individual tubes and slip on collectors for easier installation. Always check brake lines, fuel lines and electrical wires for clearance. They may need to be rerouted.
On both sides, install the tubes from front to back. As you install each tube only use one header bolt and leave it loose so the tube can move freely until all the tubes are installed. Then bolt them in place, but only snug the header bolts until the collectors are installed then go back and tighten all the bolts.
If you have a large tube size or a kick out oil pan you may have to remove the starter until the tubes are installed. While the tubes are loose reinstall the starter.
Refer to our header installation tip’s page for additional instructions.

This header is designed for any tube size up to 2 ½” with any collector size up to 5”.
The most restrictive part of this chassis is the floor board area around the transmission which does not leave enough room for our collector mufflers (We have been told by customers that flipping the floorboard will give you more room.). This design has 2 tubes on the passenger side and 1 tube on the driver side that go around the frame, this enabled us to keep room for the starter and kick out oil pans with these large tube sizes. This header was designed using a Hitachi style starter a full size GM starter will not fit.
Measuring from a stock oil pan it has 4” of room on each side for large sump kick outs and the bottom of the header is even with the bottom of a typical race pan. The lowest part of the header is the collectors because of the floor board. With no kick outs on the oil pan the starter and oil filter are easily accessible. Spark plug access is very good you can get a socket on all plugs. If you have wide front tires and wheels with an offset to the back side then the tires will rub at a full turn, the header is designed for skinny drag type tires. Any exhaust system will have to run down the drive shaft tunnel. If your raised port heads are over .600 higher than stock you will have to replace the steering column rag joint with a smaller “U” joint to make room for #7 tube. The header is designed for side motor mounts or motor plates and will fit many aftermarket “K” members, but the engine must stay in the stock location.
This header will fit a power brake booster, but will not fit the stock clutch slave cylinder or factory air conditioning or column shifter linkage. (We also know that it will not fit a TH700R4, 4L85E, or a 4L85E)

Header Installation:

We have included a drawing that shows where to cut your inner fender panels for clearance for the tubes that go around the frame.
Passenger side, depending on the tube size and if you have a kick out oil pan you may have to remove the starter to install tubes #2 and #4, if so install these tubes from below and only start one header bolt on each. Leave the bolts loose so the tubes can move freely, then reinstall the starter and bolt the tubes in place. Only snug the header bolts don’t tighten them. Next install #6 and #8 these are the tubes around the frame. Again only snug the bolts until the collector is installed then tighten all the header bolts.
Driver side, install from front to back #1 then #3 and then #7. #5 is the tube that goes around the frame, install it last.
Refer to our header installation page for additional instructions.
