We can build UP TO a 2 ¼” primary size with up to a 4” collector.
There are several aftermarket motor mounts available for the ’55-’57 cars. Most of them locate the engine in different positions. This header was designed with the engine in the stock position.
We depend on the customer for good measurements and information.
We can compensate for the engine being moved UP TO 1 ¼” forward from the stock position.
The header in our photos, of a beautiful black “55 owned by Dave Ferrante of Wyoming has his engine set 2 ½” forward from stock and we couldn’t compensate for that distance, but his car sets high so it didn’t matter.

#BBPT-663 – ‘55-’57 CHEVY BIG BLOCK – BB Pro Tour header for stock chassis with stock manual steering box https://lemonsheaders.com/product/bbpt-663-bb-pro-tour-header-for-stock-chassis-with-stock-manual-steering-box/ Wed, 14 Dec 2022 01:14:17 +0000 https://lemonsheaders.com/product/bbpt-663-bb-pro-tour-header-for-stock-chassis-with-stock-manual-steering-box/ Header Specs
This header can be built in any tube size UP TO a 2 ¼” stepped to 2 3/8” primary with UP TO 4 ½” collectors. All of the tubes are inside the frame. Our headers are hand made to order so we can build them for any engine deck height and for any aftermarket cylinder head as long as the engine is in the correct position. On our design car we used Earl Williams Classics (909-392-1358) new style side engine mounts and transmission cross member (see photo’s). These motor mounts position the engine ¾” forward from the stock position for firewall clearance and centered the engine in the frame. If your engine is forward or back from this position we can compensate for that up to about ¾ but” the engine must be centered. With a BB in these cars the steering box is the big issue.

Ground clearance is excellent and spark plug access is very good. We used a Milodon
7 quart oil pan #30970. Measuring from the side of a stock oil pan on the passenger side we have 2 ¾” at mid pan and 4 ¼” of room at the bottom of the pan for side sump kick outs. On the driver side we have 2” at mid pan to 4 ½” of room at the bottom of the pan. If you have an oil pan with a sump kick out that is under the filter, the filter will be trapped. With a straight sided pan the filter is easily removed.

What Fits:
This header requires aftermarket side motor mounts, it does not fit the original bell housing side mounts or column shifter linkage, clutch linkage or a midplate.
Milodon #30970 and #30975 oil pans will fit this header, but they both have kick out sumps, so they trap the oil filter. Milodon #31100 & #31105 oil pans fit this header and they do not have sump kick outs, so oil filter access is very easy.
This header requires a mini starter. We designed it with a Tilton Super Duty starter.
A full sized GM starter will not fit.
The steering box is difficult to clear. If you have a tall deck block plus raised port heads that exceeds .600” we will not be able to clear it. (See photo) You will have to dent the tube or grind some on the steering box.

We depend on the customer for good information and to take some measurements for us. (See photos)

Installation: for the Pro-Tour Style
Before installing the headers read our installation tips page.
If the header is built as a pro-tour header, all on piece, then it should be installed as the engine is being installed.

663-#2

Note:
Be sure to read our Yellow “Header Installation Tips” page before installing the headers.
It will make installing them much easier and save you time.

Installation: for the Race Style
If the header is built as a race header, with individual tubes and slip on race collectors, it can be installed with the engine in place.

Driver side, hold #1 tube in place until you get #3 tube into position, then bolt both tubes to the head. Install #5 tube from bottom, install #7 tube from bottom, all header bolts should only be snug, not tight. One of the collectors will have an “L” stamped on one of the mounting tabs. Install the driver side collector with that “L” facing down. The “L” tab on the collector has to match up with the “L” tab on the lower outside primary tube. Once collector is installed then tighten all bolts.

Passenger side, with the starter in place install #2 tube from bottom, install front bolt only and leave the tube very loose. Install #4 from bottom, then #8 from bottom, then #6 from top. Snug all header bolts then install “R” collector and tighten all bolts.

Installation: for the Pro-Tour Style

Driver side, should be installed as the engine is being installed.

Passenger side, remove the starter, then 9install the header from the bottom.
If you have a kick out oil pan you may have to raise the engine slightly.

We offer the Power Master #9540 starters.

#BBPT-664 – ‘55-’57 CHEVY BIG BLOCK – BB Pro Tour header for stock chassis with rear rack and pinion steering https://lemonsheaders.com/product/bbpt-664-bb-pro-tour-header-for-stock-chassis-with-rear-rack-and-pinion-steering/ Wed, 14 Dec 2022 01:14:17 +0000 https://lemonsheaders.com/product/bbpt-664-bb-pro-tour-header-for-stock-chassis-with-rear-rack-and-pinion-steering/ Header Specs:
This header can be built in any tube size UP TO a 2 ¼” primary size with UP TO a 4” collector size. All of the tubes are inside the frame. Our headers are hand made to order so we can build them for any deck height and for any aftermarket cylinder head as long as the engine is in the correct position. See “Customer Measurements”.

What Fits:
On our design car we used a Danchuk #12184 motor mount kit, these mounts position the engine ¾” forward from the stock position to give your Big Block Firewall room. This header will also fit motor plates. We also used a Unisteer Tri-5 power steering rack #8010600-01. The mounting bracket bolts directly to the frame, using existing bolt holes in the frame. Other racks may not fit.
Position of the engine is critical, so if your engine is forward or backward from this position we need to know about it. We have measurements that the customer will have to take for us. See the “Customer Measurements Page” The engine and transmission must
Because the rack mounting bracket is so far back there was not enough room for a be centered in the chassis (see photos and dimensions). The steering column is the big issue here and every thing is close with these big tube headers, so if we ask you to take measurements please be sure they are as accurate as possible.Hitachi style mini starter or full size GM starter. We had to use a Power Master #9540 or #9500 starter, or a CVR #5323 starter also fits, these are Nippondenso style starters and are required for this header.
Milodon #31100, #31105, #30970 or #30975 six quart oil pans will fit with this rack and header combination. The available room for oil pan sump kick outs is 2”+ on the passenger side and 4¼” on the driver side. The #30970 and #30975 oil pans have qa kicked out sump and will trap the oil filter. The #31100 and #31105 pans are deeper and have no kick outs, so the oil filter will be accessable.
Ground clearance is excellent and spark plug access is very good. If you request evacuation tubes they will be installed on the top of the collectors The driver side e-vac tube may interfere with the emergency brake cable or be very close.
\The engine must be centered in the frame.
It does not fit original bell housing side mounts.

Note:
It is important to read our Yellow “Header Installation Tips” page before installing headers. It will make installation easier and save you time.

Installation: Pro-Tour Style header

Pro-tour style (all one piece) It may be necessary to raise the engine to install these headers. On our design car we were able to remove the driver header out the top with spark plugs, oil filter and steering column out of the way.

On the passenger side we removed the starter and the header went out the bottom. We had a stock oil pan with no kick outs. If your oil pan has sump kick outs you may have to raise the engine to install the headers and the starter.

Installation: Race Style header

Race style header is (individual tubes and slip on collectors). With the race style header install one tube at a time starting from front to back. Then install the collectors. See our installation tips page for additional information.

We offer Power Master #9540 starters mentioned above.

#BBPT-662 – ‘55-’57 CHEVY BIG BLOCK – BB Pro Tour header for Jim Meyers weld on front chassis https://lemonsheaders.com/product/bbpt-662-bb-pro-tour-header-for-jim-meyers-weld-on-front-chassis/ Wed, 14 Dec 2022 01:12:19 +0000 https://lemonsheaders.com/product/bbpt-662-bb-pro-tour-header-for-jim-meyers-weld-on-front-chassis/ Header Spec’s:
This header is available in 2” or 2 1/8” tube sizes with 3 ½” collectors, also in a 2 ¼” tube size with 4” collectors. All of our headers are hand made so we can build them for any engine deck height and any cylinder head. It has excellent ground clearance and spark plug access.

What Fits:
It is designed for aftermarket oil pans with side sump kick outs. The available room measuring from the side of a stock oil pan is 4 ½” on the driver side and
3 ¼” on the passenger side. The header is to the outside of the oil filter, but some oil pan kick outs under the filter will trap the filter. Milodon offers an oil pan #30951 or #30956 which has a cutaway at the back of the kick out under the filter which will allow the filter to drop straight down when changing it, (very nice). This header requires a mini starter.
Our design car had a Jim Meyers Racing front subframe with their side motor mounts and the steering column installed per their specs.
This header will also fit motor plates. If you are using a Lakewood scatter shield, you may have to slightly trim the outer flange under the starter area for header clearance. This header will fit clutch linkage (mounted above oil filter, not original ’55 to ’57 linkage) and will fit a power brake booster.

Installing the headers:
Header built in the Pro-Tour style. Driver side, remove the center section of the steering column (between the 2 U joints), remove the oil filter. If the factory ears have been cut off of your automatic transmission then this header will install from the bottom without raising the engine.
Passenger side, with the engine and starter in place the header will install from the bottom.

Header built in the Race style: This header in the race style has individual tubes and slip on collectors. Each tube has its own flange. You can install this header with everything in place. Start from front to back, install one tube at a time then install the collector, then tighten all bolts.

Note:
Be sure to read the Yellow “Header Installation Tips page” before installing your new headers, it will make it much easier and save you time.

This header is available in 2” or 2 1/8” tube sizes with a 3 ½” collector, also in a 2 ¼” tube size with a 4” collector. All of our headers are hand made so we can build them for any engine deck height and any cylinder head. In any tube size you need.

What Fit’s

It has excellent ground clearance and spark plug access. It is designed for aftermarket oil pans with side sump kick outs, the available room from the side of a stock oil pan is 4 ½” on the drivers side and 3 ¼” on the passengers side. On our design car we used a Milodon low profile oil pan #30951 or #30956 and the bottom of the header was even with the bottom of the oil pan. These oil pans allow easy access to the oil filter. This header requires a mini starter. Steeroid rear rack fits.

This design fits side motor mounts or motor plates, clutch linkage and up to a 9” power brake booster. When installing your steering column the upper “U” joint needs to be approximately 5” to 5 ½” from the firewall or in the same location as the factory steering column rag joint, which will allow the column to easily clear the header. If your car has a Lakewood style scatter shield you may have to slightly trim the outer edge of it under the starter area for clearance.

This header will not fit a factory air conditioning box on the firewall, a full size GM factory starter or column shifter linkage. It requires that the engine be in the correct position. The engine should be setting on small block front motor mounts, 327 or 350 only. (See drawing that shows measurements) If you are using a poly engine mount it would be a Prothane #7-504. If you are using a solid engine mount it would be a Moroso #62530. It requires a mini starter. It is limited to a 9” power brake booster. Fits many aftermarket oil pans with kick out sumps, see info above for available room.

Installing the Headers: Pro-Tour Style

To install the passenger side, depending on the size of the oil pan kick out you may or may not have to remove the starter, remove the spark plugs and install header from the bottom.

To install the driver side remove the spark plugs, clutch linkage, oil filter and the center section of the steering column. You may have to raise the engine about 1” and install the header from the bottom.

Installing the Headers: Race Style

The race style headers are all single tubes and slip on collectors.

On the driver side install #1, #3, #7 tubes from the bottom and #5 tube from the top.

Then install the slip on collector. The collector only goes on one way, so be sure to read the installation tips page regarding slip on collectors.

On the passenger side install each tube from front to back #2, #4, #6, #8,  from the bottom, then install the collector.

It’s important that you refer tour Yellow (Header Installation Tips) page for additional information. It will make the installation go easier and save you time.
