This header is available in a 2” or 2 1/8” tube size with a 3 ½” collector. All of the tubes are inside the frame. Our headers are hand made to order, so we can build them for any engine deck height and for any aftermarket cylinder head as long as the engine stays in the stock location. On the ’64 thru ’67 Chevelle chassis, small block frame stands for the front motor mounts are required. We used Prothane polyurethane engine mounts #7-504 to design with. The header will also fit solid motor mounts Moroso #62530.

This header has excellent ground clearance. We used a Milodon low profile 7 quart oil pan #30951 or #30956 to design with and the bottom of the header was ½” higher than the bottom of the pan. These oil pans are made for easy access to the oil filter. They also have a kick out sump which the header has plenty of room for. Measuring from the side of a stock oil pan we have 4” of room on the driver side and on the passenger side we have 2 ¼” at mid pan and 3” at the bottom of the pan. If your oil pan has a driver side pan kicks out under the filter it will make access to the oil filter difficult. With a straight sided oil pan the filter will come out the bottom easily. This requires the Powermaster #9540 which is a High Torque 6” mini starter

The steering column is the big issue with this chassis, but we still have good access the spark plugs. The header is also designed for clutch linkage and a power brake booster. If you are using a Lakewood type scatter shield you will have to slightly trim the outer edge of it under the starter area for header clearance. If your car has factory air conditioning we can make the header for that.
This header will not fit factory type column shifter linkage, it must be a floor shifter.

We offer the Milodon oil pans listed above as well as the Power Master #9540 starters.

Header Installation:

Part# BBPT-610 Passenger side, remove the starter, install the header from the bottom. With the header in place but not bolted to the head reinstall the starter, then bolt the header in place.

Part# BBPT-610-A Passenger side header should be installed with the engine.

Driver side is the same for both headers. To install, remove the clutch linkage, oil filter and the bolt that holds the motor mount to the frame stand. You may have to raise the engine about 1”. Install the header from the bottom. When you let the engine back down be sure that engine has centered itself on the frame stands.

Refer to the header installation tip’s page for additional information.

#BBR-540 – ‘64-’67 CHEVELLE BIG BLOCK – BB Race header for stock chassis https://lemonsheaders.com/product/bbr-540-bb-race-header-for-stock-chassis/ Wed, 14 Dec 2022 01:03:53 +0000 https://lemonsheaders.com/product/bbr-540-bb-race-header-for-stock-chassis/ Header Specs:

This header is designed for any tube size up to 2 ½” with any collector size up to 5” or our collector muffler up to a 6” size. It has 2 tubes on each side that go around the frame which will require that you trim your inner fender wells for clearance. We designed this header with the engine in the stock location setting on small block frame stands for the front motor mounts with Moroso #62530 solid motor mounts or Prothane #7-504 polyurethane motor mounts. It WILL fit motor plates, stock clutch linkage, aftermarket “A” arms and a power brake booster, but it will NOT fit a factory air conditioning box on the fire wall or column shifter linkage. It is intended for use with skinny drag racing type tires on the front for maximum clearance with the tubes around the frame. Your master cylinder brake lines will have to be rerouted for clearance.
This header will fit all mini starters except CVR and will not fit a stock GM full sized starter. Available oil pan room for kicked out sumps, measuring from the side of a stock oil pan we have 3” of room on the driver side and 6 ½” of room on the passenger side. With no oil pan kick out under the oil filter it will easily come out from the bottom, some oil pan kick outs will trap the filter. Spark plug access is very good we recommend using a 45 degree angled spark plug wiring boot. We hold the headers and collectors up as high as possible for ground clearance. The bottom of the header is even with the bottom of a stock oil pan. If you will be using a large exhaust system we offer a replacement chrome moly transmission cross member for additional exhaust room.

Header Installation:

If you will be using your inner fender wells they will have to be trimmed to clear the tubes around the frame. The best way to accomplish this task is to mark a reference point on the fender well measuring from the “A” arm then remove the fender wells. Once the headers are installed use your reference mark and the “A” arm to measure from to determine the opening for header clearance. Make the opening large enough that the header can be taken in and out.
Before trying to install the headers lay all the tubes out on the floor to orient them to their proper position.

Driver side: install #1 then #7 from the bottom and snug the header bolts, but don’t tighten. Then install #3 and #5 these are the tubes around the frame, snug the bolts. Now install the collector and go back and tighten all the header bolts.
Passenger side: install #2 from below, you may have to remove the starter, then #6 and #8 these tubes go around the frame, then install #4 from above then the collector.
Refer to our header installation tip’s page for additional information.

’64-’67 CHEVELLE- RACE HEADER

PART # BBR-541

Header Spec’s: This header is designed for any tube size up to 2 ½” with any collector size up to 5” or any collector muffler size up to 6”. It has 2 tubes on each side that go around the frame which will require that you trim your inner fender wells for clearance.

What Fits: We designed this header with the engine in the stock location using small block frame stands for the front motor mounts. The engine mounts can be either Moroso #62530 solid mounts or Prothane #7-505 polyurethane motor mounts.

It WILL fit motor plates, stock clutch linkage and aftermarket “A” arms, but will NOT fit a power brake booster or column shifter linkage. Your master cylinder brake lines may have to be rerouted for clearance. This header is intended for use with skinny drag racing type tires on the front for maximum clearance with the tubes around the frame.

This header was designed with a Nippondenso style Power Master starter #9540 or #9500 od a CVR #5323. The overall starter length can not be over 6 ½” including the mounting block.

The available oil pan room for side kick out sumps, measuring from the side of a stock oil pan we have 3 ½” of room on the passenger side and on the driver side we have 2 ½” mid way down the pan and 4 ½” at the bottom of the pan. If the kick out on the oil pan is under the oil filter the filter may be trapped. A Milodon pan #30951 or #30956 and a Moroso #20408 oil pans give easy access to the oil filter. Ground clearance is excellent, with our largest tube size 2 ½”, the bottom of the header is ½” below the bottom of a stock oil pan. Smaller tube sizes will gain more ground clearance. Spark plug access is also excellent. With plug wires going over the valve cover we recommend using 45 degree or 135 degree boots, with plug wires going under the header use 90 degree boots

We carry Power Master #9540 starters.

Header Installation: It is important to read our Yellow (Header Installation Tips) page before installing your new Lemons Headers, it will make the Installation go easier and save you time.

Driver side: Install #1 tube (inside frame) from the bottom. Install #7 tube (inside frame) from the bottom. Install #3 tube (goes around frame), then install #5 tube (goes around frame).

Passenger side: Take starter out and install #2 tube (inside frame) from bottom and hold in place with front header bolt only (very loose). Install starter. Install #8 tube (inside frame) from the bottom. Install second bolt in #2 tube and snug bolts. Install #4 tube (goes around frame) then install #6 tube (goes around frame).
